In the next few weeks I have a crap load of traveling to do for work. Normally when I travel I have a great deal of time to myself. Most of it spent in the car driving.
Last week I drove to Evansville IN for a test run of some of my new product. That was an easy 7 hours each way. I don’t mind the driving as long as the car is comfy and I have access to my mp3 player and it’s precious payload. I can easily dribble away 10 -12 hours driving if I have my Leo Laporte (The Tech Guy) podcasts, Diggnation, The Car Guys, PC Magazine and various other little tidbits. Sometimes I’ll even download some educational stuff, mostly history or tech related.
Another thing that I do once I get to the desination is find a place to run. I was in N.C. a few weeks ago and the person who picked the hotel choose one right on a running trail for me. It was a really smooth and wooded path through some gardens and along a river. PERFECT!! So much better than pounding on a treadmill for an hour and half in a musty fitness center.
So since that’s what I end up doing I am going to start recording where I run during my trips on Log Your Run. They have a nifty little integration that allows you to post your routes on google maps.
Here are my scheduled trips (nothing sexy, just plan old work) for the next few weeks-
Urbana IL
Lincoln NE
Ames IA
Tampa FL (NOT looking forward to this trip, seriously)
Appleton WI
Rice Lake WI
Evanville IN
Minneapolis MN (have to track down Matt and Steffanie!)
I’ll do a little reseach before I go but most of the time I just find a place while driving around. I like the gardens and forest preserves the best. Nice and quiet and plenty of shade.
Hey gotta make the best of it so I might as well go and do something while in these towns.
